User Interface

PC!Watch screen contains menu and toolbar to provide all major operations. Each user's log is displayed as a History View. The current user view displays any keystroke the user is entering real-time. The history view displays information in three columns: Session, Log and Alert. The log column displays a long list of characters logged. Double click on the session will display this log in a more readable format.

Change Logins

It is suggested to change your PC!Watch password after a period of time. This is done by select Config | Login menu.

Change History

Select Config|History to bring up Maintain History dialog box. You can exclude a particular user from being logged by PC!Watch. Enter his Windows login name in the edit box and press "Add" button. To delete a user from the "Exclusion" list, select an item in the list, and press "Del" key.

The "User History" list displays all users that are logged. The log can be big after some time. To clear the logged information for a particular user, select his login name from the list and press "Del" key.

Change Options

Select Config|Options bring up Options dialog box.

Under Login tab, there are many options to control how to login PC!Watch. You can login PC!Watch by clicking on a "PC!Watch" button on Windows login dialog box, or by press a hot key sequence defined by you.

If your PC runs international Windows instead of English version or you want PC!Watch runs in completely stealth, you must check the "Don't add PC!Watch button to Windows login".

Check the "Hide PC!Watch button" checkbox. Accept the changes and restart your PC, and when Windows login dialogbox displays, click on the position where PC!Watch used to be, the system will bring up PC!Watch login dialog box. This is a powerful feature that makes other users unaware of PC!Watch.

You can also set PC!Watch button in any position in the Windows login dialog box. Make sure the "Default Position" checkbox is un-checked. Enter the x and y pixel position relative to the top-left corner of the login dialog box. If "Default Position" is checked, both x and y will set to "SYSTEM".

The field "Wait Windows Login" defaults to five (5) seconds. PC!Watch starts as soon as Windows starts. If it does not detect the Windows login screen within the time set in this field, PC!Watch will show up. The amount of time for Windows login dialog to appear varies from machine to machine. If you want PC!Watch runs hidden, you need to check the "Hide button" checkbox as mentioned previously, and choose an appropriate value for the "Wait…" field. For example, if you set it to 30 seconds, it means you have to wait 30 seconds after Windows login dialog appears before you can click on "PC!Watch" button(most likely hidden) to login PC!Watch.

Check the "Activation Hot Keys" and define a hot keys sequence. The hot keys sequence will be used in the following situation later: While PC!Watch is running in the background, holding down the "Ctrl" key and press the hot keys sequence to bring up the PC!Watch login dialog box.

Under Analysis tab, you select the user age groups so that the system will use appropriate built-in knowledge base for analyzing logged keystrokes. You can also enter some key words at the "Use User Defined Word List" and check the checkbox. Press "OK" button to save your changes.

Under Computer Usage tab, you can specify computer usage limit. This can be a daily limit or weekly limit, or both. The limit can apply to the computer as whole, or to any individual users. Owner can be excluded from this restriction. When the usage limit is about to be reached, approximately "Warn Ahead" minutes in advance, a warning window will display to ask the user to shutdown the computer. If "Rationing Action" is "Shutdown", it will automatically shutdown the PC.

Analyse

Select File|Analyse menu to analyze logged information. The results are displayed in the Alert column in the history views.

Uninstall

Select File|Uninstall menu to uninstall PC!Watch.

Frequent Asked Question (FAQ)

Please visit our web site for latest FAQ.

Q: I install PC!Watch by running Setup.exe, but it does not work.

A: PC!Watch installation files are stored two separate ZIP file: pcwdll.zip and pcwatch.zip. Most people only download pcwatch.zip from download.com and proceed with installation. PC!Watch will not start because missing DLLs. You need to download pcwdll.zip(http://business.fortunecity.com/hunt/673/products/pcwdll.zip) and install these DLLs to your Windows system directory (usually c:\windows\system) and proceed with PC!Watch's setup.

Q: When PC!Watch starts first time, it asks for user name and password. But I don't know my login and password.

A: PC!Watch login name and password are chosen by the owner(the installer). These are not your Windows login or PC!Watch registration user ID. Most people may use their Windows login as PC!Watch login name. We suggest you use "guest" as login and password, you can change them later.

Q: PC!Watch won't start.

A: If a computer has many programs to run during Windows startup, PC!Watch may not start properly. Try to remove some of these programs and restart your PC.

Q: I don't want people to see the PC!Watch button in Windows login dialogbox. Can I hide the button?

A: You can hide this button. Login to PC!Watch. Under Login tab, check the "Hide PC!Watch..." checkbox. Next time Windows starts, the button is hidden. However, you still can click on the place of the hidden button to login PC!Watch.
